Scoreless Skincare

Avoiding store-bought face and skin care regimens can be executed easily with some creative DIY projects! Here is a brief guide to inspire your beautiful mind to naturally exfoliate, cleanse, and moisturize oily to dry skin!

*Be sure to test all ingredients for allergic reactions on a small area of skin beforehand.*

Oily Skin

If your skin tends to be more oily, you could choose to exfoliate with a mixture of sea salt and olive or almond oil. For cleansing, create a blend of 2 parts castor oil for every 1 part olive oil. The castor oil will help dry your skin. For moisturizing, you’ll want to use less regimen than someone with dry skin: refrigerate a concoction of a bit of coconut oil, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and 1 cup of water.

Apple Mask Recipe:

  • ½ cup mashed apple
  • ½ cup oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 slightly beaten egg white

Apply to face and leave on 15-20 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Medium Skin

If your skin is both oily and dry, you can choose to exfoliate using a sugar scrub with one part organic sugar and one part olive or coconut oil (for a scent, add in scented essential oils). The major difference between this routine and the one for oily skin is just using less castor oil for cleansing. To moisturize, apply coconut oil or shea butter.

Banana Mask Recipe:

  • ½ a ripe banana
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1-2 teaspoons crushed oatmeal

Apply to face and leave on 10-15 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Dry Skin

For dry skin, a sugar scrub is perfect to add natural oils and remove dry skin gently while exfoliating. The key to successful cleansing is to use just a light touch of castor oil in the mix of another (olive, coconut, almond, etc.). Moisturizing can be done with whipped body butter or plain shea butter.

Avocado Mask Recipe:

  • ½ (very) ripe avocado – mashed
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon coconut oil

Apply to face and leave on 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Easy Peasy

For a more basic option to apply to any skin type, wet your face with warm water and massage a small amount of honey on your face. Leave it for 5-10 minutes and rinse off. (Honey can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so pay extra attention to the use of sunscreen!)
